What are the side effects of Doxycycline (as Hyclate) Compounded Quad Tablet Chicken Flavored?
Be sure to discuss any side effects your pet experiences when taking doxycycline with your veterinarian immediately. The most common side effect of doxycycline is stomach upset, including nausea and vomiting. Doxycycline may also increase sensitivity of skin to sunlight, particularly on parts of the body that are not covered by hair. Topical preparations containing doxycycline (such as ointments, creams, otic solutions, etc.) may also cause irritation at the site of application.
What special precautions are there?
Keep doxycycline and all drugs out of reach of children and pets. Doxycycline is a prescription drug and should be used according to your veterinarian's directions, and it should only be given to the animal for which it was prescribed. Do not give this medication to a person. Doxycycline should not be given to animals that are allergic to it, or drugs like it.
Overdose of doxycycline may cause more severe reactions similar to those listed previously in the side effects section. If you suspect your pet or another animal was accidentally overdosed or has eaten this medication inadvertently, contact your veterinarian or the A.S.P.C.A.'s Animal Poison Control Center at 888.426.4435. Always bring the prescription container with you when you take your pet for treatment. If you or someone else has accidentally ingested this medication call the National Capital Poison Center at 800.222.1222.
